PARIS, June 18, 2007 - Cathay Pacific Airways has selected The NORDAM Group to provide a comprehensive repair and support network for pivot door modifications on its fleet of Trent 700 thrust reversers. NORDAM will undertake full program management of the thrust reverser pivot door improvement program (DIP) including tooling and repair design, program logistics, and management of the supply chain. NORDAM's specialized customer support infrastructure provides Cathay with a convenient single source for modifying the pivot doors on its 43 Airbus A330 aircraft, including Dragonair. The multi-million dollar DIP is estimated to span seven years, overlapping NORDAM's existing agreement to repair Cathay's Trent 700 thrust reversers.
"Based upon our strong working relationship with Cathay, we are able to elevate our maintenance, repair, and overhaul (MRO) service above the normal scope to include every facet of the program," said Bill Peacher, chief operating officer of NORDAM's Repair Group. "It's a progressive step in our repairs for new generation products that gives the operator complete service throughout the entire repair process."
NORDAM will utilize dedicated program managers to facilitate the DIP. A program manager in Hong Kong, will provide on-site data and logistics control directly from Cathay City, and a program manager in Europe, will coordinate the repair process at NORDAM's European repair facility. The global effort will ensure critical metrics are met for each phase of the program—from material provisions and maintenance schedules to engineering specifications and repair performance.
In addition to dedicated stakeholders, NORDAM has engineered specialized tooling and fixtures to perform European Aviation Safety Agency (EASA) approved repairs on the acoustic skins and internal structures of the pivot door. NORDAM Europe Ltd. (NEL), NORDAM's newly expanded repair facility in Wales, UK, will maintain all tooling and equipment necessary to execute the repairs and modifications.
